Day 13 – 12th October 2018
Amphoe Sawi to Chaiya
Today we took the Highway that used to be the main Highway running north / south to and from Surat thani. It was excellent given it didn’t have that many trucks, flat (more or less) and had enough vendors supplying food / water / ice along the way.
We met several people in both Amphoe Sawi and Chaiya that had Buddhist tattoos. We asked around and many people get their tattoos hand poked at the Buddhist temples. The massage therapist had 3 Buddha tattoos on her back; it was tempting to get one as they were beautiful, but wouldn’t work with the cycling.
20 km’s into the ride; we met 2 fellow cycling touring guys; Angus and Christian. It’s always great to meet other cycling touring folks to share stories, compare notes on roads / preferred routes and general advice back and forth. These 2 guys have been on the road for a month traveling from Singapore and headed to Chang Mai. We chatted for a while and snapped a few photos below before we all went on our separate ways.
The weather today along with the road conditions allowed us to get the most Km’s in a day thus far on this trip.
We aim to get to Surat thani tomorrow morning via the same back roads without getting back onto Highway 41…..
