Thailand Day 21 – Majestic Elephant on the final ride

Day 21 – 20th October 2018

Phang Nga to Phuket

Saved the best for last as far as effort, wildlife and variety of scenery in one day.

The day started in Phang Nga with immediate down pour of rain that lasted about 3 hours all the way to the Sarasin Bridge, which connects Phuket to mainland Thailand.

Cycling along the main Highway (Highway 4) under the rain gets old fast as every truck that passes by covers you with water. Although we were drenched wet anyways, the water still is unpleasant. We thus took several detours off of the highway and had gotten a very nice surprise when we ran into 2 elephants hanging out in the rain. I thought the elephant was a statue at first and kept going, until Manal drew my attention to the elephant moving around. The elephants were very cool……

The sun then started shinning so did our ambition. We had planned to stop in Surin that morning, just North of Patong then at one of our coffee breaks changed our destination to a hotel South of Patong which added about 17 Km’s onto the ride.

Those last 17 Km’s were very rich with scenery as well as hills. Over the last 14 days of cycling we had only gotten off our bikes once and walked the bike up a hill, this last stretch we did so about 10 times 🙂 The cliffs and views of the sea from some of the overlooks were absolutely amazing.

Arriving at the hotel was an incredible feeling as we reached the final destination!! Although still hungry for more time cycling, it was good to stop and enjoy the beach time.

Already started thinking of the next destination, soon we hope 🙂

(This last post is a few days late due to lack of internet then our trip back to Bangkok)
