Thailand Day 11 / 12 – Highway 41

Day 11 / 12– 10th & 11th October 2018

Pathieu to Amphoe Sawi to Amphoe Lang Suan

It was hard to leave this beautiful hotel on the beach with the best swimming pool we had swam in thus far. We did have spaghetti legs, against the instinct to stay for another night, we started cycling south headed for Highway 4006 to cross onto the other side of Thailand.

We decided to utilize Highway 4006 in lieu of Highway 4 north of that – going onto Ranong. Looking at the maps, people’s advice along the way as well as the view of the Myanmar mountains from where we were; didn’t seem like a good sign as far as uphill elevation is concerned (this part of Thailand is very skinny and Myanmar is easily visible from one coast to the next).

We cycled both days on highway 41 in direction to 4006. We stopped at two bicycle shops; one in Chumpon and the other in Amphoe Lang Suan; where we picked up a couple of accessories, picked up a waterproof bag and fixed up a few hiccups.

The city we slept at resembles Port Said, Egypt (free zone area) with warehouses / markets full of all sorts of merchandise.

After 2 days of cycling around 110 km’s, we arrived at the junction between Highway 41 and Highway 4006. The looks of it as well as the bike mechanics advise was to continue traveling south then cross at the next junction at Surat Thani. We thus changed plans and will head on south tomorrow morning.

Also considering taking a day off at one of the Eastern islands before going across…..
