Thailand Day 18 – East to West

Day 18 – 17th October 2018

After a couple of days off of the bikes; it was great to get back on the road with some fresh legs….Time to go East to West.

We will catch up with the posts and publish one to sum up the last two days off the bikes. We spent them in Koh Samui (island off of the Eastern coast).

You may notice in the pictures that a few exciting modifications had been done to my bike; with the addition of a front rack and two panniers to accommodate for additional stuff J The bike shop guy and I installed the rack together with some modifications as the rack didn’t fit my bike. With a small metal extension and some rubber it finally fit and secured the two front panniers. We started carrying some food around as we now have had rice or noodles for probably 30 meals in a row 🙂 the new panniers had a great selection in there; to include mangos, bananas, fried chicken and green tea. The food certainly has been coming in handy!!

Manal’s activity tracker had crapped out and not until you lose something does one appreciate its value. The Garmin HR Vivo active stopped working and riding from that point is a different story; as we both are numbers people. This is definitely an accessory but a great one to have given all the information it produces on the spot during the activity then at the end of the day with a summary.

We cycled 63 km’s today from Sura thani to Sura in the middle of southern Thailand. The terrain has changed considerably from beach weather to a more mountainous climate. We took Highway 44 for most of the way, which had a 300 meter ascent, so it was OK.

We didn’t see anything in Sura, as it was dark and wet. The hotel on the map didn’t exist, and these two great guys on a motorcycle took us around searching for a hotel. They like us had no clue where to go 🙂 they said there was a hotel in 3 km’s, so we followed them for 10 km’s with pitch black night. After 12 km’s we found this shady place that offered a bed 🙂

Great to be back on the bikes !!
