Day 14 – tribute to Vietnamese 3agalatia (Arabic for tire puncture technicians)

Old is gold as they say…

Been using the instructions on the patch kits fixing my punctures all along but as I’ve been watching these guys fix the holes they create a perfect seal. The ones I’ve done although passed the initial water test and actually held for a day or two end up leaking.

They grab two pieces of wood, stretch the area with the puncture over the wood, sand it well, apply the glue, then the key part is that they start beating on it with another piece of wood thus ensuring the patch is attached to the complete surface area of the part being amended. Great lesson learned. The pics below will help illustrate what Im saying above.

Cycled a smooth ride through the back roads where women were drying small fish, bought additional night lights for the bikes, ofcourse stopped at several 3agalatia to assess possibilities and opportunities for improvements on my baskets 🙂 manal still refuses to install a basket (I think in fear of me filling with clutter along the road). Then onto high way one to arrive at the best hotel we have both ever seen. The trip so far has included hotels across the board from a price perspective.. Paid 10 dollars for a few 🙂

I gave away this morning more clothes and a few things to an old Vietnamese guy. I gave him my only pants, one cycling short, one boxer, a long sleeve shirt, Tupperware and some bungie ropes. This creates a great win-win situation, as the guys gets some clothes and I get more space to collect stuff / junk 🙂

Can’t wait to see the view tommorrow morning.
